A FREE, CONFIDENTIAL, AND INDEPENDENT SERVICE

Providing floating support throughout Wiltshire to help people take up a new home or stay in their current one.

Floating support
Service users are given a named worker to support them with the types of task described on this Web page, for a maximum of two years.

This means that if they move into new accommodation within the county their support goes with them.

When support is no longer needed it “floats off” to support someone else, but can return to them if needed again at a later date.

Who can we support?
We provide housing-related support throughout Wiltshire to anyone aged 16+.

What can we support you with?
  • Financial difficulties that make it hard for you to pay for your housing, eg debts, rent or mortgage arrears, problems with benefit payments, etc.
  • Understanding your housing rights and responsibilities.
  • Accessing other services or social activities in the community.
  • Maintaining your important utility services, eg gas, electric, and water.
  • Resettling into a new home.
  • Resolving problems with neighbours.
  • Developing independent life skills, eg budgeting, living safely in your home.
  • Liaising with other organisations.
  • Other tasks that will support you to secure or maintain your accommodation.

How to apply for support
We welcome applications directly from:

  • Service users
  • Any other statutory, voluntary, or community organisation (with applicant's consent)
  • Private or registered social landlords or mortgage providers (with applicant's consent).

One-to-one support
Many people find having their own support worker helps them to identify and overcome difficulties. These difficulties may prevent them from living independently; put them at risk of homelessness; or stop them from improving or rebuilding inclusive lives. Service users are helped to plan what support they need to meet their short and longer-term goals.

An agreement is made about who will do what and about when and how often they will meet their support worker. As well as helping to overcome existing difficulties, this often prevents new problems developing.

Group support
Getting together with other people dealing with similar issues can provide valuable encouragement and support. It also helps service users develop knowledge and skills to live independently in the community.
