Opportunity for carers and older residents

Opportunity for carers and older residents

Age UK is currently recruiting people who are older, or care for an older person, or who have experience of using social and/or health care services for older people. They will join Age UK's Acting Together project as Experts by Experience.

Recruits will be paid £17 per hour and will complete between one and seven hours work per activity. If recruits require assistance to complete activities Age UK will also cover those expenses (including a support worker if one is needed).

Experts by Experience support the Care Quality Commission (CQC), working alongside their inspectors on inspections of services such as care homes and hospitals. They help gather the experiences and views of people using those services, and are asked to submit brief reports to Age UK and CQC afterwards. All Experts by Experience who take part in inspections will be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check.

Experts can also take part in other activities for CQC such as consultations, events, and reviewing information.

This project runs until March 2013 and people will typically be asked to complete three or four inspections (full training will be provided) during that period. Wherever possible we will ask you only to work within your own region.

Recruits may also be asked to do other things such as review CQC information leaflets and to input into consultations. If you would prefer only to review and input (not go on inspections), please contact Age UK.

Age UK are very keen to hear from all older people and their family carers who want to play a part in this work. It is important that Experts by Experience reflect the community they live in, so Age UK welcomes applications from people with early-stage dementia, family carers, carers, members of all ethnic or faith groups, and people from the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transsexual community.
